Castanea dentata (American chestnut) was apparently the dominant tree on this slope prior to the arrival of the blight here around 1916. The current stand is composed of mixed Quercus spp., Carya spp., and Liriodendron tulipifera. The patchy but diverse herb layer is typical of this vegetation type in the Watery Mountains.
